Data Sources

HigherGov is the most comprehensive source of U.S. government data

HigherGov aggregates and enriches data from hundreds of thousands of sources including public and proprietary data not available anywhere else–providing complete visibility into the government market. If you have any questions about our data that are not addressed below, please contact us.

Public Data Sources

Federal

HigherGov covers opportunities from all public federal sources, including SAM.GOV, GRANTS.GOV, DIBBS, PIIE, NECO, SBIR.GOV, JCCS, NIH Bid Boards, and others. HigherGov also tracks upcoming recompetes and expected acquisitions on major contracting vehicles. We also track agency forecasts from more than 70 agency sources, such as APFS (for DHS), Acquisition Gateway (for GSA), and LRAFs/LRAEs (dozens of Department of Defense agencies).

Major data sources for award and awardee data include FPDS, FSRS, USASpending, DSBS, GSA Advantage, and others. We also collect supplemental data from hundreds of additional sources, including Labor Rate disclosures, DoD Budget details, agency grant programs, and more.

Please see the Public Records Requests and Human and AI Analysts sections below for more details on other Federal data sources.

State and Local

HigherGov tracks opportunities for more than 60,000 agencies in all 50 states, territories, and Washington D.C. Our coverage includes the entire SLED market, including State, Local, and Education agencies, as well as public utilities, hospital systems, and other public and quasi-public organizations.

State and local agencies post opportunities to statewide sites in select states (Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts), third-party vendor portals, their own websites, and physical newspapers.

HigherGov also tracks city, county, and school board meetings, inter-agency grant flows, and expiring contracts to forecast hundreds of thousands of shapable opportunities annually before they are publicly released.

Public Records Requests (Quasi-Public)

Every year HigherGov submits thousands of public records requests to obtain critical market intelligence that is not otherwise publicly available. This data is integrated throughout HigherGov to provide our users with insights not available to other contractors.

Examples of data obtained by public records requests include historical award documents, contract-level labor rate data, and state and local award purchase orders.

HigherGov subscribers can also anonymously submit their own public records requests through HigherGov. Learn more about our FOIA Service.

Human and AI Analysts

Human Analysis

HigherGov's analysts develop proprietary datasets, such as our M&A and Capital Markets data (available to Leader Plan subscribers), and produce dozens of research reports every year on critical topics. Our analysts can also support subscribers with custom data requests and with contracting officer outreach.

AI Analysis

HigherGov also uses AI to enhance government data, filling in missing data, extracting insights from deep inside documents, and creating insights between records. Examples of AI-supported data include finding incumbents and likely bidders for contract and grant opportunities and our analysis of board meeting minutes.

Task Orders

Standard and Leader Plan subscribers can integrate live task-order opportunities for vehicles where they hold a prime position. We support most major contract vehicles with the most popular being GSA eBuy (Multiple Award Schedule, OASIS+, Others).

More information on Task Order integration is available here.
